Charlie Hayes grew up in the North Yarmouth/Pownal area of Maine. Charlie attended what is now called the Maine Coast Waldorf School, then Freeport High School. In 2012 Charlie moved to Asheville, North Carolina and attended Warren Wilson College where he received his BFA in Ceramic Art and Sculpture, and also studied Textiles. Shortly after graduating college Hayes began a four-year formal apprenticeship working under the potter and avant-garde artist Daniel Johnston, in Seagrove, North Carolina. Hayes moved back home to Maine in January of 2021 and began renovating the milking parlor of an old dairy barn in North Yarmouth, where he will begin his career working for himself as an artist. Aside from making pottery, Charlie enjoys playing music, and works part time as a ranch hand at Old Crow Ranch in Durham, Maine.
