I am a retired art educator living in southern Maine. I worked with textiles for many years creating art quilts with hand-dyed, silk screened and painted fabrics. I am also a photographer. I began painting a few years ago exploring the landscape in oil and acrylic. I am inspired by the coastal areas near where I live, Mt. Desert Island and places where I have traveled.
The changing seasons, light, atmosphere, weather and their effect on the landscape is what I like to portray in my paintings. I enjoy spending time outside walking the beach, marsh trails and watching waves. I like observing color as light changes in morning and late afternoon, water reflections and shapes of marsh land. These impressions inform my painting practice.
I mainly paint in the studio from quick sketches and color notes on location. I also use my own photographs as reference and play with color and composition.
Maine has so many unique qualities and natural beauty and is endlessly inspiring to me as a painter.
